Veterans' Day
By: Mary Frantz
Veterans' Day is all about honoring our veterans who have served in the armed forces. Thanks to people in Emporia, Kansas, Armistice Day was Changed to Veterans' Day in 1953.
I know a woman who has served in Iraq and Kuiwat. She was gone for six monts serving our country. She did not earn a Purple Heart but she does have my heart. My Mom is that woman. Her name is Juanita Frantz. She is in the Army Reserves and her unit is located in Lakeland, Florida.
My mom is a truck driver and has been in the military for 17 years. In 2003 she served our country and our troops during Operation Freedom. My mom is planning to retire in three years, but Veterans' Day will always be her day.
When Sgt. Frantz, AKA Mom was gone, my family and I wore T-shirts that said, "My Mom is away protecting our freedom." We wore those shirts with pride and I will keep mine as reminder of my Mom's bravery and dedication. I love my mom and am proud of her.
I want to say that you don't have to like the war, any war, but we must support our troops. They have always been there to support us!
I also want to ask everyone here to thank a veteran today, tomorrow and every day for their sacrifices for us. I never want us to forget the peace that was celebrated in 1918 on the 11th month, the 11th day and the 11th hour. Today I would like to give a salute to all of our veterans!!!!!!!
